The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Metris

THE SMARTEST VAN IN THE BUSINESS

2018 MERCEDES-BENZ METRIS

Positioned as the first mid-size van in its class, the Mercedes-Benz Metris is now a staple of the company’s passenger and cargo van lines, and the 2018 version will be available with new technology and more upfitting options that broaden both its appeal and its usefulness. Whether customers are searching for reliable fleet vehicles or customized options for specific jobs, the new Metris continues the Mercedes-Benz van line’s focus on safety, performance, and cost efficiency.

SMART IS STANDARD

Noted among consumers for being a “right-size” commercial van, the new Metris now comes standard with a load-adaptive Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), offering drivers a smooth and responsive ride that keeps both passengers and cargo safe. With this technology automatically braking individual wheels and reducing engine power if wheelspin, understeer, or oversteer is detected, ESP is a dynamic handling system that helps keep the vehicle firmly under control and stabilized.

Further stability is provided by another feature standard to the Metris line: Crosswind Assist. Windy conditions have long been a virtual thorn in the side of cargo vans, but Crosswind Assist helps steady the van and add security in stout crosswinds. Attention Assist®, also standard on the 2018 Metris, provides protection against lane shift and drowsy driving by monitoring driving patterns and signaling an early warning if driver fatigue is detected. Both of these standard features help ensure that the vehicle remains in its lane at highway speeds.

Even in the event of an accident, the Metris is a step ahead of other vehicles in its class. Rescue Assist, another standard safety feature on the 2018 Metris, allows first responders to scan a QR code in the vehicle to quickly see where batteries, airbags, and other structural elements are located in order to safely perform the rescue.

FOCUS ON SAFETY

Added safety features are available beyond the standard package as well. Lane Keeping Assist provides the driver with both visual and audible warnings if the Metris veers unintentionally out of its lane. A windshield-mounted camera monitors the road ahead to detect if the vehicle sways too far from lane markings. The Metris can also be equipped with a radar-based proximity warning system, Collision Prevention Assist, that can issue warnings if an oncoming vehicle comes within a potentially dangerous distance. On multilane highways, radar sensors also can also detect approaching vehicles in the van’s blind spot and sound an alarm.

STAYING STRONG

Since its introduction, the Mercedes-Benz Metris van has built a reputation of getting the job done while maintaining a low cost of ownership and providing the power fleet users need. The 2018 edition adds to this reputation with a 2-L 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine with 7-speed transmission. The Metris comes standard with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Additionally, with a maximum payload of 2,502 lbs, 5,000 lbs of towing capacity, and 186 cubic feet of cargo space, the Metris offers the performance and maneuverability drivers have come to expect. All of this comes at a cost of ownership that makes sense for business—especially with an estimated combined EPA rating of 22 mpg for cargo and passenger versions.

THE RIGHT TOOLS

The new Metris can also be customized for a variety of light-duty vocations—including refrigeration, HVAC and plumbing, electrician, telecommunications, repair services, and delivery. Mercedes-Benz allows qualified upfitters to become part of the MasterUpfitter network. Relying on field-specific experts, Mercedes-Benz Upfitting Guidelines provide technicians and specialty workers confidence that the 2018 Metris van performs as a reliable workspace on the go.
