When you think about vocational trucks, Caterpillar may not necessarily be the first company that comes to mind. Well, it’s time for that to change. Cat®’s vocational line has some pretty tough contenders. Included in that line is the CT660, a Class 8 set-back axle model designed for the most demanding jobs. Cat designed the CT660—a blend of style and muscle—with customer input. What drivers described as the ideal truck gave Cat all the information needed to bring the CT660 to life—and to work. So … do I have your attention yet?
IMPRESSIVE POWER
The CT660 utilizes the power of a Cat CT series vocational truck engine putting out 365-475 hp at 1,700 rpm and 1,250-1,700 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 rpm. This 4-cycle diesel in-line 6-cylinder engine features dual series turbo chargers and a high-pressure injection system. Cat’s CT series engine brings quite a few features to the table, including rear PTO; an advanced air management system that reduces gear shifting; easy access to key system components; upgraded SCR system with in-cylinder technology to meet emissions standards; and a CGI block for reduced weight.
While Cat offers several manual transmission options—including Eaton’s Ultrashift® PLUS—Cat’s CX31 automatic transmission is the only one performance-matched to its CT series engine. This pairing provides maximum uptime, fuel economy, and productivity. The CX31 boasts the industry’s highest power-to-weight ratio, full power shifting, and quick acceleration. And, for applications with up to 1,850 lb-ft engine ratings, you have the option to specify the CX31 High Torque. The CX31 also offers improved performance with two side PTO locations and Cat-exclusive rear PTO.

A BODY MADE FOR ENDURANCE
The CT660’s power doesn’t lie solely under the hood. It comes, also, from its body. The CT660’s aluminum alloy cab reduces weight, extends cab life, and lets you maximize your payload, while the clear-coat acrylic process it undergoes in the paint application stage leads to corrosion and fading resistance. Its aerodynamic, sloped hood decreases wind drag while increasing visibility. Also improving visibility is the CT660’s curved, sloped wraparound windshield.
The CT660 features an all-metal modular grille and grille surround with a durable, three-piece bumper and flexible rubber-composite fender extensions. To make sure you’re safe getting in and out of the cab, Cat has included three-point grab irons and skid-resistant steps.
CUSTOMIZABLE SUSPENSION, EXPANDED RANGE
For maximum maneuverability, the CT660’s set-back axle delivers a tight turning radius and class-leading wheel cut. It sits on heat-treated alloy steel frame rails with 120,000 psi yield strength. Axle options include Meritor, Dana, and Fabco in 6×4, 8×6, 6×6, and 4×4 configurations.
The CT660’s parabolic taper leaf front suspension offers a smooth ride; it is also available with multi-leaf, shackle-type or slipper-type, or two-stage spring. Rear suspension offerings are available with walking beam or air ride offerings, including Hendrickson HMX, HAS, RT, R, and PAX; Chalmers standard and high articulation; and Neway AD369 and AD378.
The CT660 offers various fuel tank capacities, as well. Single tank capacities include 70, 80, 100, and 120 gallons with left, right, and under-cab mounting options. Dual tank capacities include 160, 200, and 240 gallons with under-cab and back-of-cab mounting options. The CT660 comes standard with a 9.5-gallon DEF tank.
The CT660’s driver seat options maximize comfort and safety and reduce fatigue.
A CAB YOU’LL WANT TO BE IN
The CT660’s interior features provide enhanced job safety and productivity, while reducing driver fatigue. Its tuned cab air suspension system, premium grade sound insulation kit, and durable routing and clipping wire system provide a smooth, quite ride for the driver. The CT660’s driver seat options, combined with the ergonomically designed dashboard and center stack layout, maximizes comfort and safety and reduces fatigue.
The CT660 offers increased drivability with a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, easy-access HVAC controls, and standard and convex cab mirrors combined in a single package. With overhead, under-dash, and adjustable map lights, you can safely illuminate your entry, exit, and workspace areas. Easy-to-reach side compartments, back-panel storage, and oversize side pockets offer quick and easy access to important items.
The CT660’s bold appearance and enhanced driver comfort features bring together the best of both worlds.
TECH ADVANTAGES FOR SMOOTH SAILING
Cat’s CT660 comes standard with Product Link™, its comprehensive asset and fleet management tool that helps you get accurate, timely information about when and where your truck is being used. Product Link tracks fuel use and costs, location history, working vs idle time, PM schedules, fluid analysis results, and more. With Product Link you can receive odometer, engine hour, and transmission PTO hour updates; set up site boundaries to monitor movement; receive fault code or suspicious movement alerts; and identify opportunities for driver training.
An optional offering for the CT660 is Cat’s Vehicle Infotainment System (VIS) and tire pressure monitoring system. VIS allows you to use the navigation software to set truck-specific routing and log miles during a trip—including distance, time, and miles per gallon—and keep accurate records for billing and tax purposes. You can use VIS to access DOT and recommended safety and vehicle inspection checklists—or customize your own—and view vehicle parameters that need to be checked after specific mileage intervals. Pair VIS with the Bendix Tire Pressure Monitoring System for fully customizable tire pressure status information.
