THE TECHNOLOGY TO MEET EMISSIONS NEEDS

The big buzzword right now is “emissions:” emissions regulations, meeting emissions standards, lowering emissions, emissions reducing technology. I could go on, but I won’t. It seems as though ever year, emissions standards become stricter. But, what does that mean to fleet owner/operators? Well, if you don’t want to replace your reliable, older diesel with a younger model, it means relying on aftermarket technology to get your equipment up to snuff. Dustin Nord, CEO, NG1 Technologies (NG1), shares his insight.

MWS: WHAT TYPES OF PRODUCTS HAS NG1 MANUFACTURED FOR THE AFTERMARKET INDUSTRY TO HELP HEAVY-DUTY FLEET OWNERS MEET THE NEW AND UPCOMING EMISSIONS REGULATIONS?

NORD:

NG1, supplier of the NG1 TechFlo Exhaust, understands the extra expense incurred by end users from the current emissions technologies: diesel particulate filters (DPFs). Maintenance costs are increased because the filter creates backpressure on the engine. Owner/operators of small and medium fleets utilizing heavy-duty trucks continue to refurbish older trucks, maintaining pre-2008 trucks, to keep from suffering the maintenance costs created by DPFs.
NG1’s TechFlo Exhaust currently fits with pre-emission, heavy-duty/diesel trucks and has proven to create engine efficiency by relieving backpressure from the engine. The system pulls heat and gases from the engine through the action of its revolutionary vortex flow application. In addition, NG1 has developed a combination approach, pairing its system with a secondary aftermarket product to reach 2010 emissions requirements. This combination solution does not cause backpressure, reaches emissions requirements, and creates an average fuel economy increase of 13 percent.
NG1 has presented this solution to the Department of Energy and will be applying to EPA for clean diesel verification with the goal of being a new, cost-effective emissions solution for the market.

MWS: WHAT TYPE OF PICKUP AND BOX TRUCK SYSTEMS DOES NG1 HAVE IN THE WORKS AND HOW WILL THEY IMPACT PRODUCTION AND BOTTOM LINE NUMBERS FOR FLEET MANAGERS/OWNERS?

NORD:

NG1 is launching its TechFlo system for box trucks and pickup trucks this fall. The TechFlo design has shown even higher results in fuel savings with box and pickup trucks than their heavy-duty counterparts. TechFlo also improves horsepower and torque for tow/haul purposes. Dyno tests have resulted in 10 hp improvement.

MWS: SOUND POLLUTION HAS BEEN A GROWING CONCERN WITH CLASS 4-6 TRUCKS—ESPECIALLY IN MUNICIPALITIES. HAS NG1 CREATED A POTENTIAL SOLUTION FOR THIS?

NORD:

The TechFlo Exhaust has proven to be eight to 10 decibels quieter that stock exhausts. TechFlo has four different innovative technologies combined to create sound reduction in a straight through exhaust system. We see that sound reduction is an up-and-coming concern for regulatory agencies and TechFlo can supply the solution.

MWS: THE NEED FOR INCREASED EFFICIENCY, AS WELL AS MEETING EMISSIONS REGULATIONS, HAS INCREASED ELECTRIC AND HYBRID/ELECTRIC VEHICLE USAGE IN CERTAIN MARKETS. WHAT EFFECT HAS THIS HAD, IF ANY, ON SALES IN THE DIESEL VEHICLE AFTERMARKET INDUSTRY?

NORD:

At this time electric and hybrid/electric technologies have not impacted the diesel vehicle industry. 85 percent of companies deploying heavy-duty trucks are small to medium fleet owners who cannot afford the electric vehicles and charging stations are not available enough to cover routes.

MWS: ARE THERE ANY NEW PRODUCTS/SERVICES WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING FROM NG1 IN THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO?

NORD:

Look out for our pickup and box truck systems coming out in November and our new emissions technology within the next two years.
