The 2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab Features Major Upgrades for Your Benefit

BIG TRUCK, BIG PAYOFF

Chassis Cab

Ford’s 2017 Super Duty® Chassis Cab may be light on its toes, but it offers serious strength. The high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body is lighter than the steel previously used. yet it’s more dent- and ding-resistant and not subject to red rust corrosion. The 2017 Super Duty Chassis Cab also has a new fully boxed under-cab frame and a C-channel aft-of-cab frame, both built of 95% high-strength steel.

BODY TALK

A stronger, lighter body isn’t the Chassis Cab’s only upgrade. According to Ford, “Torsional rigidity is eight times greater than the previous design.” Ford redesigned the Chassis Cab’s C-channel frame to more easily accommodate a range of upfits from flat and dump beds to wrecker, service, and delivery bodies.

“Not only did we make the frame of the 2017 Super Duty much stronger than before,” says Ford, “axles, suspension, brakes, driveline, and transfer case are larger and heftier for greater strength and capability. We’ve made the components of the four-wheel anti-lock brakes in F-450/F-550 models larger than before, with the largest rotors in class.”

Ford designed the 2017 Super Duty Chassis Cab to help enhance your bottom line by helping upfitters get your vehicle body completed quickly and easily. Upfitters can reliably connect electrical equipment to the CAN busses or ports, a job made easier because of the Chassis Cab’s available class-exclusive factory-installed programmable upfitter interface module. This module allows a direct CAN programmable logic interface to control devices quickly and simply using a laptop or notebook.

Another upgrade on MY2017 are the standard factory-installed auxiliary upfitter switches, of which there are now six instead of four. “The system includes two 40-amp switches (ignition on or off) plus four 25-amp switches (ignition on),” according to Ford. “The switches with fuses and associated relays are integrated into the new overhead console/storage compartment. Upfitter switches are a convenient way to connect a variety of aftermarket accessories to the vehicle’s electrical system. Because they’re factory-installed, there’s no need to cut into the truck’s electrical system when installing accessories.”

AMENITIES AT WORK

At Ford, drivers matter. So, it’s no surprise that the company included an upgrade dealing in driver comfort. All three offered cabs are now longer, providing more leg room while maintaining standard industry cab-to-axle dimensions. The 2017 Chassis Cab offers a smooth ride and serious leg room.
The SuperCab and Crew Cab also offer additional storage: available rear under-seat storage in the SuperCab and a fold-flat/locking load floor in the Crew Cab. Some other new available features include a modified sine 110V/400W AC power outlet, Rear View Camera Prep Kit, inflatable rear outboard safety belts (Crew Cab), and enhanced SYNC® 3 connectivity system.

SYNC 3 offers all of the previous SYNC features, plus next generation, voice-activated technology:

  • Hardware and software: The easy-to-read color touchscreen conveniently displays phone, audio, and available navigation functions on the home screen.
  • High-speed performance: From a light tap on the touchscreen to simple voice commands, SYNC 3 delivers at an impressive speed.
