Many manufacturers offer options for fleet owners, but when you choose a fleet vehicle from Ram, you have access to a full-service commercial vehicle lineup, a support system of in-field technicians, member incentives and discounts, and a business relations team. Owners of fleets of all sizes can take advantage of Ram’s fleet services.
Part of Ram’s commercial vehicle lineup is none other than its medium-duty Ram 5500 Chassis Cab. And paired with Ram’s fleet services, your business will definitely benefit from a 5500 Chassis Cab purchase.
MORE POWER
The main reason you’re buying a truck is because of its capability. The Ram 5500 Chassis Cab is one of the most capable, and it all starts with its frame. The chassis’ frame is made of up to 97 percent high-strength steel that offers no component interference above rear rails for weight reduction, easy upfits, and high levels of torsional rigidity.
For those looking for a gas truck, the Ram 5500 features a standard commercial-grade 6.4-L Hemi V-8 engine with variable valve timing. It’s paired with an Aisin 6-speed automatic with a power take-off (PTO) option. For diesel lovers, buyers can choose a 6.7-L I6 Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. The 6.4-L Hemi V8 offers up to 370 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The 6.7-L Cummins Turbo pumps out 360 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque and is available with dual alternators that provide a maximum of 440 amps. The chassis features a 52-gal rear fuel tank and available 22-gal midship fuel tank to keep your trucks going and going.
What’s the point in a powerful engine if your truck can’t support the weight? Thankfully, the 5500 Chassis Cab has a maximum payload of 12,510 lbs and can tow up to 35,220 lbs. An integrated trailer brake control helps with those heavy hauls. The brake controller is completely integrated into the truck’s electrical control system and can be activated at the flip of a switch for better control. This better added cushion of control is great for maneuverability, but it also helps to keep drivers safe.
BRAKE FOR SAFETY
Enhanced safety features aren’t always on your priority list when buying a new truck, but safety features sure are important to Ram. The 5500 Chassis Cab features multiple braking features to keep your driver, cargo, and haul safe. Trailer Sway Control recognizes a swaying trailer and applies brake pressure on alternating wheels. The system also adjusts the throttle to reduce trailer sway if necessary.
Another Ram Chassis Cab feature is Ready Alert Braking that applies slight brake pressure when a quick release of the accelerator pedal is detected. Brake Assist technology applies extra braking power if an emergency braking situation is detected by the rate of brake application. Finally, Electronic Roll Mitigation applies braking force to reduce the likelihood of an accident if the sensors determine a rollover may occur.
The 2019 Ram Chassis Cab also offers Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and AEB with trailer brakes on all trim levels.
In addition, the Ram Chassis Cab also features a maximum speed of 87 mph, although owners have the option of choosing a maximum speed of 65 or 70 mph. The cab features advanced multistage front airbags, a theft deterrent system, and speed control.
Safety technology this advanced needs a cab to accommodate it.
STYLE FEATURES
The Chassis Cab was created to be a work machine—that’s why Ram integrated five auxiliary switches (including a PTO on/off switch) into the instrument panel to make operations easy.
Ram’s redesigned instrument panel pushes controls up and toward the driver, improving the reachability of system controls. The offered 12-inch Uconnect 4C NAV features a reconfigurable touchscreen that can display one application or divided in half, operating two applications at one time. Uconnect 4C features voice command and Bluetooth capabilities. It also features SiriusXM with 360L that allows drivers to discover new music based on their listening preferences. SiriusXM Travel Link gives real-time local weather forecasts, fuel prices, and live weather maps.
The 2019 Ram Chassis Cab’s new HVAC system features 30 percent more airflow at lower noise levels, and all-new in-duct electric heating elements on diesel models help speed cabin warmup on even the coldest of days.
The center console has also been redesigned as a functional workspace with more than 12 different storage combinations and 16 more liters of space (up from 23 to 39 liters). It includes a wide docking area with optional wireless charging, five USB ports (three in the front, two in the back), and two available 115-volt three prong plugs that can handle up to 400 watts for charging electronic devices or power tools. Drivers can also find additional storage space by folding up the rear bench seat to uncover under-seat storage compartments.
The 2019 Ram Chassis Cab includes a new R-A-M grille that flows a high volume of air to cool the engine. The hood is also made of lighter aluminum adding weight savings. The grille is available in four different styles, and the new front bumper features larger openings, providing even more airflow to the turbo intercooler.
The Ram Chassis Cab has three available head lamp variations. All three variations offer twice the lumen output comparted to previous lighting. The premium set offers an Adaptive Front Lighting system (AFS) that pushes beams up to 15 degrees in the expected direction of vehicle travel. Ram also stands behind its LED systems with a lifetime warranty, contributing to a low total cost of ownership.
Ram has a fit for every fleet owner’s need.
YOU-SPECIFIC
Choose between a regular cab (available with a the SLT or Tradesman trim) with a wheelbase of 144.5, 168.5, 192.5, or 204.5 inches or a crew cab (available with all three trims) with cab-to-axle lengths of 60 to 84 inches and wheelbases of 173.4 and 197.4 inches. When you’ve decided on the perfect configuration, the Ram chassis’ upfit-friendly design makes things simple. This design helps avoid expensive re-engineering with an industry-standard 34-inch frame rail spacing.
