The Freightliner M2 106 is a multipurpose work truck just waiting to be put to use. It comes in three configurations: day cab, 26-inch extended cab, and 48-inch crew cab. The day cab configuration includes full-width bench seats or fixed air suspension driver and passenger seats and passenger seats with SCBA, storage, or locking safe provisions. The 26-inch extended cab comes equipped with full-width rear bench or rear jump seats, fixed or tip-out tinted side rear windows, and a cab privacy curtain. The 48-inch crew cab has rear bench or individual seats, including air suspension and SCBA and electric rear door windows.
STAYING ON THE ROAD
Your choice of a Cummins ISB or ISL engine delivers the strength and performance you need to maximize productivity. While the ISB engine is the lightest in its class, the Cummins ISL has the largest power/torque ratings in the medium- to heavy-duty market. The M2 106 is available with manual and automated-manual transmissions from Eaton Fuller or automatic transmissions from Allison.
The M2 106 requires fewer changes under the hood. The SCR aftertreatment system design means less stress on the engine, fewer active regenerations, and improved fuel economy, which translates to less downtime and more profit. And, with its easy maintenance design, including easily accessible engine and see-through fluid reservoirs, inspection and service are hassle free.

CLASSY ON THE INSIDE
According to Freightliner, the inside design of the M2 106 eases driver fatigue and makes the driver’s job less of a job, leading to increased productivity. The ergonomically designed driver’s area features an automotive-style dashboard, easy-to-read LED backlit gauges, and easy-to-reach controls. An advanced heating and air conditioning system provides excellent airflow for uniform temperature control throughout the cab, while extensive interior insulation reduces noise and provides protection against the elements.
The M2 106 also offers a spacious cab with flexible seating options, so you can configure your truck for specific applications. And, for those drivers who must use their truck as an office, the Business Class M2 106 offers plenty of storage space, including the overhead console and optional floor-mounted compartment, which features a writing surface, printer provision, and 12-volt power outlet.
Additionally, the M2 106 includes a few in-and-out safety features. It has a low step-in height with slip-resistant dual steps, a large door opening, and strategically placed exterior and interior grab handles. These types of details enhance safety and reduce driver fatigue.
The M2 106’s impressive maneuverability makes it ideal for urban use.
GETTING AROUND TOWN
While we’re on the subject of safety, the M2 106’s aerodynamic steel-reinforced aluminum cab makes it durable, lightweight, rust resistant and, of course, safe. It has been thoroughly tested to handle a variety of jobs.
Being able to handle a wide array of jobs means a truck needs to be maneuverable. The M2 106 performs well in tight spots and on tricky routes. It features a wheel cut up to 55-degrees, a set-back front axle, and a swept-back bumper. With a 2,500 square-inch windshield, aerodynamic sloped hood, and low-profile dash, the M2 106 offers excellent driver visibility for spotting potential hazards.
GET THE TRUCK YOU WANT
Integrating the chassis with the specialty body you need is vital to a reliable and sustainable operation. The M2 106 offers clear frame rails back-of-cab, multiple exhaust options, and Freightliner’s proprietary SmartPlex™Electrical System. According to Freightliner, “This multiplex wiring system simplifies chassis-to-body electrical integration and significantly reduces the number of wires. SmartPlex adds expansion capabilities and allows custom programming for each customer’s requirements, with no software to buy or additional tools required.”
Freightliner’s SmartPlex Electrical System makes operating the M2 106 easy by allowing placement of switches in the most convenient locations. Add in Freightliner’s best-in-class visibility and optional mirror configurations and your drivers should feel less stress and more control.
