The 2018 Ford Transit—available in three lengths, three heights, and two wheelbases—will offer 64 configurations across four basic platforms, including van, passenger wagon, cutaway, and chassis cab. “Transit features rugged unibody construction and extensive application of high-strength and boron steel, which has been tested at Ford proving grounds and in the hands of real-world fleet customers in North America,” according to Ford.
The new model year offers a high-mount location for the rearview camera on medium- and high-roof models; available power-folding, short-arm heated mirrors with turn signals; Bluetooth capability with optional AM/FM stereo with audio input jack and microphone; pushdown manual parking brake (available on vans and cutaways); and a heavy-duty cargo flooring option, along with an available heavy-duty rear scuff plate kit and rear-door scuff plate kit for Transit cargo van.
IT’S WHAT’S DRIVING YOU
The 2018 Transit comes standard with a 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine engineered for optimal performance, with available CNG/propane gaseous engine prep package. Also available is the 3.2-liter Power Stroke® 5-cylinder turbo diesel featuring advanced fuel, turbo, and emissions systems that meet the stringent US clean diesel standards.
“For maximum capability,” adds Ford, “the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost® is a trusted workhorse. Whether carrying materials to a jobsite or towing a trailer, EcoBoost-equipped Transit provides best-in-class maximum gasoline engine torque of 400 lb-ft.”
Each of the engine options is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift® for efficient rear-wheel drive operation.
OPTIMIZE CARGO SPACE
Get what you need the first time. The 2018 Transit can be configured just the way you need it and, with multiple lengths and roof heights, you can be sure what you get meets your expectations. Roof heights include:
- High-roof: This height features 81.5 inches of interior cargo height—enough for a 6-ft, 9-inch tall individual to stand upright.
- Medium-roof: This height choice can accommodate up to 72 inches of cargo height.
- Low-roof: This roof height has nearly 57 inches to provide an ideal combination of payload management, upfit readiness, and garageability.
“The interior has been designed for easy upfit of racks, bins, shelving, and other cargo storage and hauling solutions,” according to Ford. “When properly configured, the long-wheelbase, extended-length, high-roof Transit van provides 487.2 cubic-ft of cargo capacity, with rear cargo doors that can open up to 237 degrees for easy loading.”

AN EASY RIDE
The 2018 Transit offers more comfort and better ride quality. According to Ford, Transit’s power rack-and-pinion setup provides drivers with an exceptionally communicative steering feel. “The front suspension consists of subframe-mounted MacPherson struts and a stabilizer bar for smoother, flatter cornering, while progressive rear leaf springs and heavy-duty, gas-charged dampers provide well-controlled ride quality.”
