While it’s helpful to know a truck’s specs and features, sometimes you just need input from a company that uses the truck day in and day out. HOME GROWN
Phoenix Enterprises in Liberty, New York, is a family owned operation. “I started out as a carpenter,” says Dan Ratner, Sr., owner, Phoenix Enterprises. “But, we’re in a rural community and don’t have the population to specialize in one particular thing.” Liberty has a population right around 10,000. “So, today our business does a little bit of everything, from constructing patios and walkways to excavating and commercial snow removal in the winter months.”
Its rich history, peaceful setting, and historic hotels make Liberty a great summer tourist destination. But, as with anywhere throughout the US, it’s the community that really makes the town. “For us, giving back is important. When we’re not working, we’re volunteering,” says Ratner, Sr. “Ours is a family business and we’re always involved in the community. Our most recent project was building a paving stone patio for seniors at the high school.”

A HELPING HAND
The type of work Phoenix Enterprises does calls for equipment that will help complete the job each and every time. Part of having the right equipment is having the right work truck. Phoenix utilizes a host of Ram Chassis Cabs—including a ’09 5500 model with 100,000 miles on it.
“We have a ‘15 Ram 5500 and the ‘09 Ram 5500 is still running strong,” says Ratner, Sr., explaining that the solid performance of previous Rams led the company to purchase more of the same. “We put a lot of stress on our trucks and the Rams are always dependable. To date we have owned 10 different Ram Trucks. Currently we utilize a Ram 1500, two Ram 2500s, a Ram 3500 Flatbed, a Ram 5500 Dump Truck and a Ram 5500 Switch-N-Go. Our dealership, Robert Green, is currently building us a 2016 Ram 3500 Dump Truck to add to our fleet.”
CREATURE COMFORTS
The hallmark of a quality work truck is its ability to increase productivity, which means durability in both body and chassis, quick and easy maintenance features, and a comfortable interior, among other things. “Ram Chassis Cabs have a nice interior with power windows, power seats, air conditioning, radio—everything you need. With other trucks, you’ve got to pay extra for that,” says Ratner, Sr. Features like these, while seeming unimportant in and of themselves, help reduce driver fatigue to improve productivity—something you shouldn’t have to pay extra for. “You get more bang for your buck in terms of comfort with the Ram Chassis Cabs.”
CUTTING UNNECESSARY WORK
Because Phoenix Enterprises works multiple construction jobs and snow removal, the company’s needs vary in terms of truck bodies. Luckily, the Ram Chassis Cab lineup supports an important piece of Phoenix’s equipment—Switch-N-Go removable bodies. “We’ve got a Switch-N-Go body on our Ram 5500 Chassis Cab,” says Ratner, Sr. “It lets the truck have many uses and even perform several functions in a day.” This cuts down on unnecessary time loss and workload, allowing a higher level of productivity.
