GENERAL HAYDEN TO PROVIDE KEYNOTE
General Michael Hayden, a retired four-star general and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency, will serve as keynote speaker at The Work Truck Show® 2018. His address is scheduled for Thursday, March 8, as part of the President’s Breakfast & NTEA Annual Meeting. The Work Truck Show, North America’s largest work truck event, is scheduled March 6–9 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
As head of the country’s premier intelligence agencies through two presidential administrations, General Hayden was on the front line of global change, the war on terrorism, and the growing cyber security challenge. He understands the dangers, risks, and potential rewards of the political, economic, and security situations our country—and the world—are facing.
“This is one of the most relevant keynote addresses you will have the opportunity to hear,” says Todd Davis, 2018 NTEA Convention chairman, and vice president of Phenix Enterprises Inc. “General Hayden is an expert on intelligence matters like cyber security, government surveillance and geopolitics, and he has dedicated his life to protecting both American security and liberty. He will offer an invaluable leadership perspective on navigating through key challenges industry businesses face today.”
The Work Truck Show features the latest vocational trucks, vans, vehicle components and truck equipment on an exhibit floor covering more than 500,000 square feet. For more, visit worktruckshow.com.
DAIMLER TRUCKS DONATES TO UNITED WAY AND OTHERS
Daimler Trucks North America LLC’s (DTNA) truck manufacturing plant in Cleveland, North Carolina, donates $100,000 to the Rowan County Chapter of United Way, along with $20,000 to seven other non-profits.
The money will help the community in several ways, such as the Lego® STEM education curriculum, foreign exchange programs, and other tools for schools, as well as teen outreach, welding programs, and wreaths for the graves of fallen members of the military.
The company also gives each of its roughly 1,400 employees two paid days off to volunteer at the non-profit of their choice, and earmarks $500,000 annually for its matching gift program.
“The agencies we support served over 70,000 unduplicated citizens in Rowan County last year due to the continued generosity of companies like Daimler Trucks North America,” says Jackie Harris, director of resource development and marketing, Rowan County Chapter of United Way.
The Cleveland facility produces Freightliner and Western Star Class 8 truck models for sale in North America, along with the Freightliner Columbia® and Argosy® cab-over-engine truck models for the export market. For more, visit www.daimler-trucksnorthamerica.com.
RAM RECEIVES EPA APPROVAL TO SELL 2017 DIESEL TRUCKS
FCA US LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. announces that it has received a certificate of conformity from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a conditional executive order from the Air Resources Board (ARB) of the State of California permitting the production and sale of FCA US’s 2017 model year light-duty Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0 liter diesel engines.
The approval comes after several months of collaboration between FCA US and the EPA and ARB to address concerns about diesel emissions control technologies employed on earlier model year versions of these vehicles. The 2017 updates include modified emissions software calibrations, with no required hardware changes, and FCA US expects that the modified calibrations will have no effect on the stated fuel economy or the performance of these vehicles.
“We appreciate the efforts of the agencies in working with us to achieve this milestone. We are anxious to build on this progress to make appropriate updates to the emissions control software in our earlier model year vehicles,” says Sergio Marchionne, chief executive officer of FCA US and FCA.
FCA US plans to seek permission to use the modified software to update the emissions control systems in the 2014-2016 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 diesel vehicles that were the subject of the Notices of Violation issued by EPA and ARB in January 2017.
