Talk to Jacob Rosendale about his new position as a Stertil-Koni service technician, and you come away convinced that this man is right where he should be. A refreshing notion in this often discontented world. Rosendale seems to be in the right place at the right time and is grateful for the opportunity with Stertil-Koni where he works with heavy-duty vehicle lifts used by maintenance facilities servicing heavy-duty work trucks and other vehicles.
Jacob Rosendale cites natural mechanical skills, an interest in learning how industrial/commercial products operate, and a passion for making equipment work well as three reasons for choosing his career path. He expanded his arsenal of career-related strengths, when he earned a diploma in Diesel and Industrial Technology from the Universal Technical Institute in Exton, Pennsylvania. He also has experience in sales, electrical installation, and HVAC technology.
“This position is a great intersection of my natural abilities, schooling, and interests,” Rosendale says. “Stertil-Koni gives me the opportunity to combine my educational and vocational training, along with a passion for making things work really well.”
EACH DAY IS DIFFERENT
After receiving his diploma, Rosendale says a Stertil-Koni employee told him the service tech position was available. He interviewe d for the job, and the rest is history. Now, on any given day, you might find Rosendale assembling and testing vehicle lifts, installing lifts at customer facilities, upgrading related software, and/or shipping parts from the warehouse. Rosendale’s favorite aspect of the job is that every day is different, helping satisfy his desire for challenges, and that he travels to customer facilities to provide servicing, updates, and installations. The most-important goal Rosendale has as a new Stertil-Koni employee is learning everything he can about the lifts he works on. As for an aspect of the job he doesn’t care for? Rosendale has a tough time coming up with an answer.
“Actually, the atmosphere here is great,” he says about the Stevensville, Maryland, warehouse. “In general, I don’t like ‘slow’ times, so we’re fortunate enough to be really busy and that suits me just fine.”
With ongoing education and training, along with experience, Rosendale hopes to rise to a supervisory role with technical delivery and installations, meaning he’ll be with Stertil-Koni for the foreseeable future. He recommends that anyone interested in a service tech career first earn a diploma, then be prepared to learn every aspect of the business, and to continue learning—just as he plans to.
“I absolutely have to stay ahead of the curve because the products and technology are always changing,” he says. “In summary, it’s great to be a part of the leader in heavy-duty vehicle lifting. Stertil-Koni has an extensive range of certified heavy-duty vehicle lifts and it’s fantastic to be part of a winning team.”
