SKF Vehicle Aftermarket optimizes the end-user experience with the debut of its TraX Wheel End Monitor (WEM) in booth no. 13111 at the American Trucking Association (ATA) Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) 2021 Annual Fall Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition. This year’s event takes place September 12 to 16 at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
The SKF TraX Wheel End Monitor (WEM) is a sensor unit that installs on the wheels of heavy-duty vehicles. The sensors intelligently monitor wheel end vibration and temperature to detect potential issues such as impending bearing failures. Integrated with telematic service providers, drivers learn of needed fleet maintenance via wireless communication. Further, these alerts come in advance of potential wheel end conditions that could compromise performance and safety. In the event that sensors detect problematic conditions, the system typically notifies users thousands of miles before likely service interruption.
“The SKF TraX WEM helps prevent unscheduled downtime by carefully monitoring each wheel end’s vibration and temperature in near real time,” says SKF Vehicle Aftermarket Director of Fleet Sales Michael Hartman. “By detecting a potential problem in advance, fleets can avoid costly repairs, damaged reputations, and dangerous traffic hazards. The SKF TraX WEM not only has the potential to save money, but also helps to protect the lives of drivers and others on the road around them.”
